Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. How is SwimSafer Stage 2 different from Stage 1?
The second stage is based on the first stage, adding the types of swimming, breathing control and treading water. Your child will also learn about underwater safety, including how to detect dangers and swim in proper coordination.
2. Does my child need to swim in deep water for Stage 2?
Not yet! Although your child can enter deeper waters (about 1.4 meters wearing a life jacket), all activities are closely monitored and safety is emphasized. The second stage helps children prepare for the next stage of deeper waters, including buoyancy, rowing and treading water.
3. What kind of swimming is taught at this stage?
Your child will begin to learn the coordinated movement of hands and feet so that they can swim 25 meters on the front and 15 meters on the back. These are the basic swimming styles, which are taught in an interesting and supportive way to build endurance and skills.
4. Why does my child need to learn to tread water and float without aid?
Unaided water jumping and buoyancy are life-saving skills. Coaches teach children how to stay calm and float in case they accidentally fall into the water – especially if they can’t get close to the water immediately.
5. What is the purpose of swimming with clothes and a PFD in Stage 2?
In a real emergency, children may fall into the water while wearing clothes. Learning to wear swimsuits and personal swimsuits (PFD) will help children feel more confident underwater and teach them how to react calmly and safely.
