GEM Residences residents can enquire about private or compatible small-group swimming lessons at their condominium pool in Toa Payoh. Sessions depend on authorised residential access, current management rules, suitable water space, learner needs and coach availability.
CondoSwimming.sg is independent of GEM Residences, GEM Homes, the MCST, managing agent and management office. A resident should confirm current visitor and paid-coaching rules before arranging a lesson.

Use the 50-metre lap pool for structured progression
The issued GEM Residences brochure identifies a 50-metre lap pool. A long course can support stroke development, pacing and progressive endurance when a safe, unobstructed section is available.
The published length does not establish current depth, lane markings, entry points or everyday pool conditions. Inspect steps, ledges, depth changes and secure recovery walls before teaching. Beginners can practise in a short wall-side section rather than attempt full lengths.
Independent swimmers may extend repeat distance while maintaining breathing, alignment and timing. Technique and control remain more important than the number of lengths completed.
Distinguish children’s, spa and pet water
The issued plan also identifies a Kid’s Pool, Kids’ Water Play, Jacuzzi, salt-water Jacuzzi and a dedicated Pet Pool. These are separate-purpose facilities.
Shallow water, play fittings, jets and lounging features can interrupt ordinary stroke mechanics. The children’s water may support selected early-confidence activities if its actual depth and layout suit the learner, but it should not be assumed to work as a conventional lesson pool.
The jacuzzi areas are for leisure and wellness. The Pet Pool is not a human teaching pool and must never be used for swimming lessons. Keep coaching equipment and learner activity away from the pet area.
Manage a busy high-density facility deck
GEM Residences contains 578 homes. A long pool serving a large estate can attract lap swimmers, families and casual users at the same time.
Work along one side, control floats and boards, keep steps and circulation routes clear, and yield to residents. Choose quieter periods where practical, especially for beginners who benefit from predictable space.
Stop during lightning alerts, unsafe weather, closures, contamination concerns or management instructions. A facility shown in an issued brochure may be temporarily unavailable or subject to new operational rules.
Confirm the correct residential entrance
The resident should provide the approved visitor entrance, registration process, block or lift and exact pool meeting point. Do not ask a coach to infer access from the general Lorong 5 Toa Payoh address.
Ask whether identification, escort, facility booking, coach registration or supporting documents are required. Public proximity to neighbourhood amenities does not create public access to the private facilities.
Savills’ URA-based completion table lists the 578-unit GEM Residences among the major private residential projects completed in Q4 2019. Completion does not override current MCST access or coaching rules.
Programmes for suitable learners
Children and beginners
Early lessons may cover safe entry, breath control, face immersion, floating, rotation, assisted movement and recovery to a secure wall. The selected section should suit the child’s height, confidence and recovery ability.
A parent or authorised adult should remain contactable and follow estate supervision requirements. Share relevant medical, sensory, behavioural or water-confidence needs before lessons start.
Stroke development and stamina
Independent swimmers can practise freestyle breathing, backstroke alignment, breaststroke timing, turns and controlled pacing. A 50-metre course supports progressive repeats when clear, but lesson quality depends on technique and shared-space awareness.
Adult lessons
Adults may begin with breathing and water confidence or refine efficiency and endurance. Anyone anxious in deeper water should mention this during enquiry so the first session can prioritise orientation and secure recovery points.
SwimSafer-related practice
Selected water-confidence, survival and stroke foundations may be practised during a condo lesson. Formal SwimSafer assessment or certification is not automatically available at GEM Residences. Ask what can be taught there and what may require another approved venue.
What to include in an enquiry
Share the learner’s age, ability, goals, preferred times, resident status, approved entrance, correct block or lift, exact pool meeting point and relevant safety needs. Confirm that the pool is open and management permits the proposed coaching arrangement.
